Children must receive the sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation prior to First Eucharist.
First Eucharist (Holy Communion)
About gr. 2 or age 7
Children must be baptized prior to celebrating other sacraments. If baptism is needed, please contact the parish office.
The Archdiocese recommends that children celebrate the Sacrament of First Reconciliation prior to celebrating the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Both of these sacraments are usually celebrated in the same year.
The Archdiocese encourages parishes to run sacrament preparation programs remotely during this pandemic time. Holy Family Parish will make the content available to families by monthly emails in 2020-2021 instead of asking them to come to the church for preparation evenings.
The Church recognizes parents as the first and best teachers of the faith for their children (Second Vatican Council, Gravissum Educationis, 28 October 1965; Saint John Paul II, Letter to Families, 2 February 1994). The parish will support you with excellent resources and guidance.
By October 31st, complete the registration form for First Reconciliation (Confession) AND First Eucharist (Holy Communion), bring it to the church and get the at-home workbooks.
-The registration form is in the link below. (One form covers both 1st Reconciliation AND 1st Eucharist.)
-Please attach a copy of your child’s BAPTISM certificate unless they were baptized at Holy Family Parish. -There is no charge for the workbooks.
-You can bring your completed registration form to the church and pick up the workbooks Mondays to Fridays between 10:00 – noon or 1:00 – 4:00, or Saturdays from 11:00 -- noon, or at the registration table for Mass on weekends.
You will receive an email by November 6th with instructions on what to complete and submit by November 30th, and so on each month until May, 2021.
The Sacrament of First Eucharist (Holy Communion) is no longer scheduled according to the school the child attends. After a child has had the opportunity to celebrate their First Reconciliation (Confession) and after having completed the preparation process, families can arrange the date and Mass time for their child’s First Eucharist (Holy Communion) by contacting Joanne at the parish office at or 780-459-3694.
Looking forward to a different but rich and rewarding experience of sacrament preparation this year!
